Heritage
Once the site of Murphystown castle, Glencairn Gate is where legend comes to life. The original Glencairn House was designed in 1859 by eminent architect Benjamin Woodward. It features a castellated tower, Oriel windows, granite columns and a walled garden. It has been central to Ireland’s cultural, architectural and diplomatic history as the British Ambassador’s residence in Ireland since 1953.
Counting Justice James Murphy and notorious Cork-born politician Richard ‘Boss’ Croker among its previous occupants, Glencairn House’s architectural style has been described as ‘Scottish baronial meets American colonial’.
Its expansive grounds were once used for Boss Croker’s equine pursuits, where horses including Orby – the first Irish horse to win the Epsom Derby – were trained. Today Glencairn Gate lays the foundations for a new forever – yours.
From preserved castle ruins to original masonry, Glencairn Gate’s features have been retained and lovingly renewed for the decades to come by Park Developments.
Residents will make their homes on lime trees walk – re-imagining tales of times gone by at the castle playground and dreaming up adventures of their own in the woodland park. Generations will converge at the original, ornate iron gates. And familiar faces will find new beginnings in family homes that are built to endure.
